Charity Block
For
2009 Yolo County Fair
Beehive Quilts is coordinating Yolo County Fair's 2009 Quilt Block Challenge with the assistance of Janet Wheaton.
Each quilter is asked to submit a 12 ½" squared-up quilt square in their interpretation of the 2009 Fair theme of "SUNNY DAYS." The challenge is open to all residents of Yolo, Solano, Sutter, Yuba and Colusa counties.
The quilt square must be made of quilt shop quality, 100% cotton fabric that has been pre-washed, ironed and is ready for quilting. Please do not include embellishments that cannot be machine quilted over. It may be pieced or appliquéd. The block must have a tag attached with name, address, e-mail (if available) and phone number of quilter. Do not permanently attach the contact information to the block. Each block will have a number assigned/attached to it to allow for unbiased judging. Only one block per person will be accepted.
Squares are to be turned in to the Beehive Quilt Shop by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 to be considered for judging. If turned in after that date, we will do our best to have it included in the final quilt(s), but it will not be judged.
The squares will not be returned. All entries will be used to make a quilt for raffle for the 2010 County Fair, and all proceeds will be given to a local charity. This amount may be split to more than one charity. The charity will be announced at a later date. Quilt(s) will be made after the end of the fair and displayed at Beehive Quilts no later than May 1, 2010. Note: there is a current quilt being raffled that was made from the blocks turned in at last year's fair. Beehive Quilts is selling tickets for that quilt now through the 2009 fair.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The judges' decisions are final.
